the initial Danzig special effects remind me of The Thing, probably intentionally...

yes, that is cool. Danzig is dark and heavy without sounding like a dog growling over guitar riffs that are so fast i can't even enjoy them... that's my take on most black metal. but yeah, Danzig rules! understated, bluesy, and truly Satanic lyrics. the first three albums are just so great.

nice to know someone else notices "the Thing" thing. i thought i was just crazy. while i've got to agree that most current black metal sounds like "a dog growling over guitar riffs that are so fast i can't even enjoy them" ( at least when it's not trying to go to the top of the Norwegian charts, that is.), the 1st and 2nd waves have this punk-like attitude and sound, that Danzig hasn't been able to achieve since the Misfits. don't get me wrong, i LOVE the first 3 Danzig albums too, but find myself turning to (early)Celtic Frost, (anything by) Burzum, and (2nd album and up) DarkThrone a lot more. i guess it's all a question of what you're looking for in sound, and being more from the punk school of thought myself, i'm always looking for that kind of sound. of course i'm sure if any of the BM bands i mentioned knew i was comparing them to punk rock, they'd stab me 20+ times and/or make necklaces out of fragments of my skull...lol.

I personally enjoy "Cradle Of Filth" because the lyrics are really haunting in a sense, and the way that Dani filth sings is awesome. I also enjoy lots of punk music, but mostly the "Misfits".

To VS: Yup, Danzig rules, i dont really fall into one genre of music (as it is with many). As the good and wise Butt-Head once so elequantly put it, i like stuff thats cool, uh huh huh huh.. (lol)

To something_is_coming: those vids were great. The first very light and the second, very dark.

Lately I've been on an Opeth kick. I dont know what it is... maybe because they offer the melodic to the heavy all in one sitting. I find myself in alot of their songs also. Then again, after too much of it I'm right back to heavier, sock you in the f*ckin gut metal, lol. Hails!
