Greetings, I go by Thorgrim online, I am an Odian wolf wizard, this means I am an adherent of the Odian way who takes a no holds barred approach to sorcery. I know the mythos, along with anything else that can stir the soul in similar fashion, is a source of great power, the mythos have their place among the greats.

Embracing the pseudo-satanic in traditional witchcraft

"Many of the raiders were men who had suffered from the forcible means employed by Charlemagne for the conversion of pagans, or were the offspring of such men. Their enmity against Christianity was therefore fierce and unsparing; there was religious hatred, as well as the lust of spoil, in the rage which selected churches and monasteries as especial objects." ~ J. C. Robertson

The devil, the black man of the sabat, the master, big louie and Satan. The witchfather takes on a serious, confrontational, defiant, even wicked nature in these guises. Masks of the master are many, and he cares not about what we think he should be. He will never be tamed, and we of the blood as his heirs and children shall forever be rebels from authority, embracing the pseudo-satanic. I really seem unable to help myself, the pump I get from listening to violently anti-christian music ala archgoat and deicide is inspirational. I cannot stop the spreading smirk across my face as I lower my head and close my eyes in respectful cooperation with the majority during their prayers for various occasions.

Myself along with many other pagans and witches of various flavors feel that we are unable to have our own beliefs peacefully. There is an ever apparent animosity between the sons and daughters of Native pre-christian spirituality and those of the abrahamic faiths. The aggressive intolerance of the religious majority mainifests itself in our modern world by way of condemnation and ostricism. Most keep the truth hidden for fear of slander, losing their job, or even children to a judeo-christian system that feels it would be better to tear a family apart than let children go unbaptised. The abhorance felt toward this thinking is a knee-jerk reaction, and at least in my own case, is due mostly to the observance of the hippocritical actions of so many christians. Many of them make bold claims about their beliefs, such as the adamant fervor surrounding the historical factuality of their hebrew mythologies. All the while, the real historical facts up through today's headlines amply illustrate the true modus operandi for the deseminization of the christian agenda, world domination via convert or die.

Raud the strong in the late 10th century became a legend of paganism and it's greatest martyr. During his time, King Olaf of Norway was instrumental in the conversion of Norway to christianity, he sought Raud the strong who was a powerful land owner, warrior, gothi and seidman. King Olaf sought the political benefits of conversion, so when Raud refused baptism in exchange for his life, and mocked the new god christ, the king decided to make an example of him. The king had him bound, placed an adder within a metal horn and heated one end with a flame, the other end being shoved down Raud's throat. The animal had no choice but to make it's way down Raud's throat and gnaw it's way out through his side.Fast forward to August 2009, Mount Vernon Ohio eighth-grade teacher, John Freshwater admits to forcibly burning a cross onto the arm of a student who questioned the validity of his christian beliefs, the unofficial government imposed religion. With over a thousand years of the same sort of zealous insanity, I find it no surprise that many such as myself, while not "satanists" cannot help but embrace the rebelliousness it embodies. I find most satanism to simply be an inversion of christian ideology, not a bad thing in essence, yet it can never offer the peace of ones traditional ethnic spirituality, whatever that may be to you. There is alot to be said for the enemy of my enemy is alright with me relationship. I have enjoyed the work of and found common ground with satanists in the past, especially those of more thelemic/Gnostic/chaos magic philosophical mindset.

The devil found in theistic satanism is not the same one in traditional witchcraft. It is my belief that this deity harkens back to set and ancient sand gods. While the devil of traditional witchcraft, far from benevolent, is not supposed to be some ultimate evil either. Edred Thorsson has caused quite a stir in the past by associating Set with Odin, the two primary gods he works with, I suppose it is natural to want to streamline ones practice. I personally disagree and lend set to theistic/deistic satanism, I do see a great likeness between Odin and Lucifer however.

In Snorri's Prose Edda, there's a story about how Odin playing the role of Bolverk stole the mead of poetry from the Giant Suttung. He did this by tricking the slaves of Baugi, into killing each other for his awesome whetstone. He then told Baugi that he could do the work of the serfs himself, but only if Baugi agreed to do something for him in return. Baugi did not have much of a choice seeing as how he could not do the harvesting alone and pledged to Odin to do as he wished, and Odin did the work of the dead slaves. When it came time uphold his end of the bargain, Odin had Baugi drill a hole into the mountain where Suttung kept the mead of poetry. Odin then turned into a snake and slithered into the mountain through the hole Braugi had drilled. Once inside he then met Gunnlod, Suttung's daughter, who was guarding the mead. He charmed her with his carnal talents for three nights, stole the mead of poetry, and gave man the rhymesters share.

In the Book of Genesis, one of the most famous stories is that of the garden of Eden, where Lucifer took the form of a serpent and seduced Eve into eating an apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Eve convinced Adam to do the same and in doing so Adam and Eve "became like God", in both stories, Odin and Lucifer are serpents of seduction and enlightenment. They use deception and cunning to, in an indirect way, show mankind its own divinity.

Another relationship that I have found between traditional witchcraft and the satanic community is the relevence of the red thread. This is a belief that the abilities applicable to witchcrafts are inherited, and resurface randomly throughout the generations. I have to recommend readers to aquire and study a copy of the "Book of Enoch". So the story of the watchers will be familiar with them, Traditional witch lore from the middle ages to today had included in some traditions anyway, the belief that these fallen angels, namely Azazel, had taught men the sorcerous arts, metalworking, beautification of the eyes ect.. Having taken wives among the daughters of men, started the red thread or witch blood. The offspring were'giants" as in great men of their time, thinkers and leaders, great warriors and closer to the unseen in many respects. Some Witches of today who accept a red thread explaination embrace this mythology, that a minute amount of their blood can be traced to the fallen. The Nephilim were descibed as tall, pale people with icy blue eyes. Occult nazism wished to reconstruct this race of perfected supermen of which they felt they were the heirs to as decendents of the godmen. It is believed by some that the nephilim are connected to the goetic spirits, I personally believe they are the same, as well as the gods of the germanic pantheon being none other than the fallen angles on earth, seeing as it was believed the Aesir physically lived. Viewing this through a gnostic pagan perspective we see Odin as lucifer, liberator of mans free will from the demiurge YHWH. May Lucifer light the way, to lead you down the path which the fates have placed before you. May the wyrd weave you to illumination. Make no mistake witch, you worship the devil!!!

I often go on bitter nights
To Wotan's oak in the quiet glade
With dark powers to weave a union -
The runic letter the moon makes with its magic spell
And all who are full of impudence during the day
Are made small by the magic formula!
